Renaming the Peter Principle

Posted by Andrew Cooper on July 12, 2008

Just to prove that I’m capable of writing short posts as well, is it time to rename the Peter Principle the Gordon Brown Principle?   Poor old Gordon is a classic example of someone who has been promoted to his level of incompetence.  Not a political point, not least because I’m completely apolitical these days.  Not unsurprisingly, it’s not an original point either.

IMO the system’s broke and needs fixing.  Some kind of assessment centre or test might have helped.  Surely it doesn’t make sense to put someone without any apparent leadership skills whatsoever into a job which is all about leadership?  In Brown’s case, of course, there wasn’t even a vote.
